7 video projects in 1!

Single Point Lighting Example

I am currently working on 7 video projects in one. 1. “Single Point Lighting” video, 2. My “One, Two, GO!, sketch to transfer perfection”, 3. “An Apple Time Lapse”, 4. “An Apple Drawing Walk through”, 5. “Value Application with the Land and Take Off Method (working title) 6. “Value Scale for Graphite, Black it not Black” and 7. “How to Make your own Transfer Paper”.

Single Point Lighting “What the Light is Doing!”

It has been slow going it seems. One simple project rapped into many concepts. They are important concepts to me and I want to be able to deliver them precisely. I really want to give these wonderful ideas to the universe. Most of these concepts, I wish I knew 20 years ago and some I have been refining for 20 years.

Do me a favor and check out my YouTube. Please Subscribe! My goal is to get 100 subscribers so I can have a custom YouTube Channel name instead of https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyVsGHRU5XN16iNReSwZQWg (not very elegant).

Picking up a piece I haven't worked on in over a year video.

A fun quick little video. I am struggling a bit to finish a piece I haven’t work on in a while. I have changed up my technique with graphite since I started this piece. It will be interesting to get it done.

New Camera (to me) from Santa (aka my wife)

Canon T3i with Magic Lantern Installed

I know the T3i is not the newest Camera on the market, but it fits my need. Being able to shoot video with two cameras, not to mention the flip out screen (my other camera is a T2i with no flip out screen) will help so much and save a bunch of time. The first thing I did was install the Magic Lantern build for it. It works like a charm. Also, I was generously given a nice lightning kit. Something I should have looked into a long time ago I can wait to get started on my next project. I was thinking that I never really have given my full gusto to drawing something simple like an apple. Plus it will be great for a few tutorial videos I have been thinking of doing. Let me know what you think or if you want to see me make a specific video. In the mean time check out my YouTube Channel “Get Your Phil of Art” , I just finished uploading an Almost 12Hour Video.

12 Hour (almost) Real Time (almost) video of White Tara Graphite Drawing

I am super happy to have this video done and uploaded finally. It took about three days to export it, and gladly there were no errors in the process! Check it out and let me know what you think. 12 Hour White Tara Drawing.

47 hours to go on 12 hour video export

I have this crazy idea about posting an almost in real time of me working on my White Tara Statue drawing. So I edited a video that is about 12 hours. As you can see the export is taking quite a bit of time, currently 47 hours and some change. I also installed “Magic Lantern” on my canon camera to help out with my work flow and to be able to shoot better. I should have installed this a long long time ago. Once I get the video loaded to YouTube I will post again about it. Cross your fingers that all goes well and I don’t run into any issues. Also, please Subscribe to my Youtube Channel! More and more videos to come.

Dried Maple Leaf Time Lapse

Here is a fun little project I did and made a time lapse of it. I will be making a tutorial on drawing with graphite with this footage as well soon. Check back in in a week or so and I should have it ready. Please go to my YouTube page and follow me if you have a YouTube account. Or if you have anything you would like to see me make or have a tutorial idea leave a comment. Thanks again!!!

Get Your Phil of Art: How to make a canvas stretcher for paintings.

Here is a silly instructional video about how I put my canvas stretchers together. Shooting alone got the best of me on this one. Let me know what you think.

Please also, if you have a Google account subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

Also, please check out my Etsy and favorite my shop (it would help me out a bunch). I wound stop you from buying any while you where there too.

Williamsburg Oils

In my latest Get Your Phil of Art, I spend a quick moment sharing one of my preferred materials. Here I’d like to spend a little more time sharing what I love about Williamsburg Oil paints. As a non-representational artists that working primarily in the movements of color and composition its important to have stand up colors. I think my work speaks to that.

The pigments are outstanding, it’s really easy to mix and blend colors. You can tell the quality of the product just by the feel. I’ve been using these materials for over ten years. I used to have to order them direct but now I am able to find them locally as well. I also enjoy that these are made in US, knowing that the company making these has not sacrificed any quality.

Quick Tip!!! Textures with an old tooth brush and some stenciling.

study-in-light-dynamics-2

I never get rid of old tooth brushes. To get the speckled texture on this piece I made a stencil with tracing paper and scrap paper. I traced out the area that I wanted to remove from the paper and cut it out with an xacto. I lined it up and blocked out the rest with scrap paper. Then I used a tooth brush that I dipped in ink and then pressed the bristles of the brush with my thumb to create a small splaying effect.

Give it a try and do it on a practice piece first.

Don’t use the tooth brush on your teeth ever again.
